The government has designated the voting day for the 2024 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, as a national holiday. Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian announced that this decision is based on Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 33 of 2024, which was signed by President Prabowo Subianto. "We would like to officially announce the issuance of Presidential Decree Number 33 of 2024 regarding the voting day for the Pilkada as a national holiday," Tito stated during a press conference at the Ministry of Coordinating Human Development and Culture (PMK) on Friday, November 22, 2024. "This decision was signed by the president on November 21, 2024," he added.
Tito made this announcement following his attendance at the Ministerial Level Meeting (RTM) in preparation for the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 holidays. During this occasion, Tito explained that the government's decision to declare a holiday on the voting day aims to ensure that all citizens can exercise their voting rights. "Thus, Wednesday will officially be a national holiday in conjunction with the Pilkada," Tito remarked. It is noteworthy that the simultaneous Pilkada in 2024 will take place across 508 districts/cities and 37 provinces in Indonesia.
