Technology company Apple is expected to produce all iPhone smartphones in India, especially for phones that will be sold in the US market.
Quoted from the GSM Arena report, Friday (25/4), Apple prepared the plan because the trade war between the US and China was heating up again, which ultimately prompted the company to look for better options.
In fact, the diversification of iPhone production began in 2017, when Apple and Wistron began producing the iPhone 6s and iPhone SE at the Bengaluru, India factory.
At that time, the reason for the diversification was due to high import taxes on goods from China.
The decision significantly made Apple move more production because of the trade war between the United States and China during Donald Trump's first term.
After all that was done, in April 2024 it was revealed that around 14 percent of all iPhones in the world were made in India.
Tech analysts expect that share to grow to 25 percent by the end of 2025.
That number is likely to grow further, as Apple looks to double production to get more than the 60 million iPhones it sells annually in the United States from India by the end of 2026.
With the US-China trade war set to escalate in 2025 over reciprocal tariffs, Appleās decision to move US iPhone production to India is a better move.
In theory, imports from China would be subject to a 145 percent tariff, but even if smartphones were temporarily exempted, Apple would still have to pay the 20 percent tariffs imposed by the previous US administration.
