Labuan Bajo – Labuan Bajo has become increasingly important to Singapore’s tourism sector due to strong travel interest and growing visitor flows from the city-state. Data from early 2024 show that Singapore led the list of countries sending tourists to Labuan Bajo, reflecting its position as a key source market for the destination alongside China and Malaysia. From January to May 2024, international arrivals to Labuan Bajo included approximately 7,000 visitors, with Singaporean tourists featuring prominently among these international travellers.
The strategic importance of Labuan Bajo for Singapore tourism lies in its accessibility and appeal as an aspirational travel destination offering unique natural assets such as Komodo National Park, pristine marine environments, and luxury marine experiences. These attributes resonate strongly with Singaporean travellers seeking short-haul international leisure options, supported by direct flight connectivity that reduces travel time and enhances convenience. Strengthening direct air links with Singapore is expected to further boost inbound tourism, diversify Singapore’s outbound travel patterns, and stimulate bilateral tourism exchange.

Tourism in Eastern Indonesia continues to gain strategic importance as the region positions itself as a new growth engine for the national tourism sector. Destinations such as Labuan Bajo, Lombok, Raja Ampat, and Wakatobi offer distinctive natural landscapes, rich marine biodiversity, and strong cultural heritage that differentiate Eastern Indonesia in the global market. The government’s focus on developing priority destinations, supported by infrastructure improvements and destination management reforms, has accelerated international interest and strengthened the region’s appeal to high-value and experiential travelers.
Air connectivity remains a critical factor in unlocking the full potential of Eastern Indonesia’s tourism economy. Limited direct international access has historically constrained visitor growth, despite strong demand from regional markets such as Singapore, Australia, and Northeast Asia. As a major aviation hub in Asia-Pacific, Singapore plays a pivotal role in bridging Eastern Indonesia with global travel flows. Enhanced air links through Singapore not only reduce travel time but also integrate Eastern Indonesian destinations into international tourism circuits, supporting longer stays, higher spending, and broader market diversification.
In this context, Scoot is expected to play a key role in connecting Eastern Indonesia to the global market. Through its expanding network and hub operations at Changi Airport, Scoot offers efficient access to a wide range of international feeder markets. The airline’s growing presence in Indonesia reflects confidence in the region’s tourism potential and supports broader efforts to promote sustainable tourism, stimulate local economies, and position Eastern Indonesia as a competitive, world-class tourism region.
