The National Food Agency (NFA) fully supports the program for expanding new rice fields and optimizing land, which aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's vision to accelerate food self-sufficiency.

This support was expressed by Apriyanto Nugroho, the Acting Director of Fresh Food Security Supervision at NFA, during a visit with members of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives to a new rice field site in Block B, Dadahup District, Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan, on Saturday (December 7, 2024).

As a concrete step, Apriyanto stated that NFA is pushing Bulog and National Rice Millers to prepare for large-scale absorption of the harvest. This is crucial since the new rice fields cover a vast area of 3 million hectares across 12 provinces.

"We fully support efforts to increase food production, which is currently being prioritized by the technical ministries. We will continue to encourage Bulog and National Rice Millers to prepare for large-scale absorption so that the self-sufficiency target, in line with the President's vision and direct instructions from the Head of the Agency (Arief Prasetyo Adi), can proceed smoothly," said Apriyanto.

Additionally, Apriyanto mentioned that NFA is urging several regions to boost local government food reserves and ensure price stability in their areas. Monitoring the supply and prices of food is vital, especially to control inflation effectively.

"In every meeting and inflation monitoring session with the Minister of Home Affairs (Tito Karnavian), we always emphasize that all regions must maintain stability in both rice and other commodities," he added.

For your information, under the authority of Presidential Regulation 66 of 2021, NFA continues to oversee the supply and prices of 12 strategic food commodities, including chili, meat, cooking oil, eggs, and sugar.

Apriyanto stated that all efforts by NFA are fully aimed at achieving food self-sufficiency quickly and efficiently. He hopes that through the NFA program, Indonesia's food resilience and independence will be significantly strengthened.

"Recently, Mr. Arief Prasetyo Adi has delivered several units of SPHP (Food Supply and Price Stabilization) vehicles to support the Affordable Food Movement across Indonesia," he mentioned.

"Earlier, we also provided laboratory vehicles for monitoring the safety of fresh food to various regions. By 2024, there will be 17 laboratory vehicles operated by local food agencies to ensure the safety of fresh food in markets," he added.

In another location, Nita Yulianis, the Acting Head of Food Vigilance Activities at NFA, accompanied members of Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives to the Kurik District in Merauke, South Papua, on Saturday (December 7, 2024). There, Nita confirmed that the government is committed to strengthening collaboration to achieve self-sufficiency swiftly.

"Our shared spirit is to achieve self-sufficiency quickly. NFA, following the direction of Mr. Kabadan (Arief Prasetyo Adi), is tasked with maintaining stability in food supply and reserves," she said.

Nita noted that the House of Representatives specifically requested NFA to oversee and support programs aimed at increasing food production, such as land cultivation, so that NFA can assign Bulog to handle procurement. "Once again, we are committed to supporting the President's vision to accelerate food self-sufficiency," she explained. Previously, the Head of the National Food Agency, Arief Prasetyo Adi, expressed full support for increasing domestic production through both intensification and extensification programs. He hopes that food self-sufficiency can be achieved and strengthen national food reserves.
