PT Combiphar, a leading healthcare company in Indonesia, sources ginger and galangal from five villages in Karanganyar and Wonogiri, Central Java. These ingredients are used for making herbal medicine under the brand Air Mancur, which is part of the Combiphar Group.
This was announced by a representative of PT Combiphar during a harvest celebration held on December 4-5, 2024, in Ngadirojo, Wonogiri, and Jumapolo, Karanganyar, attended by hundreds of women from the Combi Hope Women Empowerment program.
The program aims to improve the livelihoods of women, especially those in the Farmer Women Groups and Family Welfare Program (PKK) near Combiphar's operational areas. This initiative aligns with the company's commitment to "Championing a Healthy Tomorrow," focusing on enhancing the quality of its preventive products, including high-quality herbal items.
The harvest celebration in Wonogiri featured Baroto Eko Pujanto, the Head of the Agriculture Office of Wonogiri, Santosa from UPF Yankestrad Tawangmangu, Ance Yoslyn, the Internal Communication & CSR Manager of PT Combiphar, Bernadetta Widiandayani, the Director of PERSADA, and local representatives from TPPKK and women farmers. In Karanganyar, the event was represented by Siti Muslichah, the Vice Chair of TPPKK Karanganyar, along with Ance Yoslyn and Bernadetta Widiandayani.
This year marks the fourth year of the women's empowerment program in Central Java, supported by TPPKK, the Agriculture Office, UPF Yankestras Tawangmangu, and PERSADA. Around 230 women from 12 Women Farmer Groups in 2 villages in Wonogiri and 3 villages in Karanganyar have participated in training on cultivating medicinal plants (TOGA), producing quality simplisia, and promoting healthy living practices since June 2021. The training also focused on disease prevention related to lifestyle, entrepreneurship, and self-motivation.
"This program follows a comprehensive approach, meaning that Combiphar not only provides training but is also committed to purchasing ginger and galangal harvests as simplisia, which is the main ingredient for making jamu Air Mancur. Producing simplisia is challenging, so Combiphar supports the villages by providing a drying house in November 2022 and a slicing machine in May 2024 to five of its partner villages," said Ance Yoslyn, Internal Communication & CSR Manager at PT Combiphar.
"The Agriculture Office continuously supports this program by working with the women’s groups to achieve the best results, especially since Combiphar raises our targets each year. Several training sessions will be held throughout 2024 to help implement the program, ensuring all targets are met and expanding the women’s knowledge in networking, fertilizer production, and enhancing herbal entrepreneurship," stated Baroto Eko Pujanto, Head of the Agriculture Office of Wonogiri.
Endar Pangestuti Timotius, Acting Chair of the TPPKK of Wonogiri, expressed gratitude on behalf of the organization, saying, "We thank PT Combiphar for being a strategic partner in empowering the community through the Combi Hope Women Empowerment program. This initiative is a clear example of collaboration between the private sector and the government to promote economic independence, especially for women in the Women Farmer Groups."
Combiphar's target for 2024 is to produce 1,000 kg of ginger simplisia and 2,400 kg of galangal simplisia.
