Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin emphasized the crucial roles of mothers and teachers in fostering a culture of healthy living within society, recognizing their significant influence on lifestyle choices.
"Ensuring the health of our community must become a cultural norm and lifestyle for all. This is why Mother's Day holds such importance," stated Budi in a message commemorating the 96th Mother's Day.
In a statement received in Jakarta on Monday, the Minister asserted that public health should be a top priority, starting with these exemplary figures. He highlighted the pivotal role that mothers and teachers play as primary role models within families and communities.
"If mothers and teachers are not healthy or do not practice a healthy lifestyle, it is highly likely that their surrounding environment will also be unhealthy. Therefore, they require special attention from the Ministry of Health," he continued.
As a concrete measure, he instructed the implementation of health screenings beginning within the Ministry of Health itself. This program is designed to encourage all employees, particularly mothers, to take greater care of their health and that of their environment.
He noted that the results of these screenings would be competitive, with outcomes published on the website to compare the health levels of each unit.
"This program will serve as a role model that we will disseminate to ministries, agencies, state-owned enterprises, and private companies. A healthy lifestyle is essential for reducing healthcare costs and enhancing our quality of life," he added.
He also expressed special appreciation for mothers through a scoring policy that assigns greater weight to their health in this initiative.
"In honor of Mother's Day, if a mother is healthy, her score will be doubled. This way, the role of mothers becomes more significant in determining whether a work unit is healthy or not," he remarked, promising attractive rewards for healthy units.
