The pioneering figure of paragliding in Indonesia, Gendon Subandono, has stated that Rejang Lebong Regency in Bengkulu Province can utilize paragliding as a tourist attraction in the region.
"Paragliding serves as an attraction at a location. In tourism, there are three A's: Amenities, Access, and Attractions. Paragliding is indeed a very appealing attraction to be developed within the tourism sector of Rejang Lebong," he remarked while in Rejang Lebong on Sunday.
He elaborated that in Bengkulu Province, the area designated for the development of paragliding is Rejang Lebong Regency, situated at the Vila Diklat Danau Mas Harun Bastari (DMHB) site, with a take-off height of approximately 100 meters.
"The Rejang Lebong local government is currently preparing this location to become a new tourist destination. Once it is operational for paragliding, this area will gain more recognition, attracting many visitors who will come to observe, try it out, and ultimately, it will evolve into an exciting tourist attraction," he explained.
He mentioned that the potential for developing paragliding in Rejang Lebong Regency has already been tested with flight trials conducted over two days on July 22-23, 2025, during which three paragliding pilots successfully took off from Vila Diklat DMHB Rejang Lebong.
According to him, for the flight location at Vila Diklat DMHB to be established as a destination, it is essential to prepare a perfect take-off site and a landing area.
"We have discussed the preparation of access with the Rejang Lebong Regent, and it will be arranged as soon as possible before the launch scheduled for August 17, 2025," he added.
Previously, Rejang Lebong Regent Muhammad Fikri expressed his commitment to preparing the facilities and infrastructure for paragliding at Vila Diklat DMHB Rejang Lebong, with the hope that it will become an attractive tourist destination in the area.
"Please pray that this will become a new tourist destination; if there are many paragliding enthusiasts, the atmosphere will be even more enjoyable. God willing, this will be successful."
