WIKA Beton Port Supports Merak-Bakauheni Ferry Services

Tuesday, 31 Dec 2024

To ensure smooth maritime traffic during the Christmas holiday of 2024 and New Year 2025, PT Wijaya Karya Beton Tbk (WIKA Beton) is supporting the use of its port facilities at the South Lampung Concrete Products Factory as a contingency port for Merak-Bakauheni. This initiative is backed by a joint decree from the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, the National Traffic Police Corps, and the Directorate General of Highways, allowing port operations from December 20, 2024, to January 4, 2025.

WIKA Beton's strategically located port, just about 3 kilometers from PT ASDP's Bakauheni Port, is expected to help reduce vehicle queues during peak crossing times at the main port. Ferries docking at WIKA Beton will operate between Ciwandan-Merak and back.

The WIKA Beton port is integrated into the Port Operation Control Center (POCC) monitoring system, utilizing advanced technology such as real-time CCTV surveillance, BMKG weather data, and a ship schedule performance dashboard, which serves as the main control center for managing crossing traffic.

As of this release, WIKA Beton port is handling up to 11 ferry dockings per day. As a contingency port, it is designated for vehicles in categories VIB & VII, as well as categories VIII & IX.

"The use of our port as a contingency facility is a new development for WIKA Beton since its operation began in 2017. We are open to strategic collaborations with relevant parties to enhance sustainable economic growth for the community," said WIKA Beton's President Director, Kuntjara, during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT ASDP on Tuesday, December 24.

The use of this port facility shows WIKA Beton's commitment to support economic growth by enhancing connectivity between regions across Indonesia.
