The Ministry of Communication and Digital invites discussions among stakeholders, ranging from industry players to various institutions, to deliberate on the formulation of regulations concerning the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
"We are still in the discussion phase with stakeholders. Until early March, we aim to engage in dialogue. There will be six discussion sessions with the relevant parties," stated Nezar at the ANTARA Heritage Center in Jakarta on Monday.
Nezar indicated that these discussions will include representatives from the industry, as well as sectors such as healthcare, transportation, education, and financial services, along with institutions involved in establishing AI usage regulations in these areas.
The outcomes of these discussions, according to Nezar, are expected to culminate in a policy document. This document will subsequently be further developed into an academic manuscript that will be revisited for discussion as a foundation for proposing comprehensive regulations.
Previously, Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid announced that her office would prepare regulations regarding the utilization of AI within three months.
"In three months, we will also draft the regulations," Meutya stated in Jakarta on January 13.
Meutya has assigned Deputy Minister Nezar to formulate the regulations concerning AI utilization. She noted that the government has already issued a circular providing guidelines for AI usage, which includes the application of principles such as transparency, accountability, humanity, respect for copyright, and safety in the use of artificial intelligence.
"However, we are indeed planning to elevate this to the level of regulation. This is being developed by Deputy Minister Nezar," Meutya added.
Nezar previously mentioned that the government is preparing more robust regulations to ensure that the application of AI technology across various sectors is conducted responsibly.
