A Chinese network technology company, ZTE Corporation (ZTE), has asserted that Indonesia is one of the most significant markets for their global business. This statement was made by Rao Long, the Head of International Branding at ZTE, during an encounter with KOMPAS.com journalist Bill Clinten at ZTE's booth at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, Spain, on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. "Indonesia is currently one of our largest markets. Globally, Indonesia ranks among the top two countries contributing to ZTE's overall business," stated Rao.
Rao did not disclose the number of ZTE devices that have been shipped to Indonesia, nor did he specify which categories of devices have contributed most significantly to the total sales of ZTE products and technologies in the country. However, it is evident that ZTE currently offers a wide range of products beyond network technology and base transceiver stations (BTS). These include routers, Optical Network Terminals (ONT), Set Top Boxes that utilize IPTV services, and smartphones from the Nubia series, including the latest Nubia Neo 3 Series.
In addition to the aforementioned products and technologies, Rao noted that many companies in Indonesia are currently utilizing ZTE's 5G technology for industrial applications. "In Indonesia, our 5G technology is widely employed in the industrial sector, including mining and various manufacturing plants," explained Rao.
Beyond industrial applications, Rao mentioned that ZTE technology is also utilized in the network segment, such as providing BTS for several mobile operators. However, Rao expressed a desire for Indonesia to rapidly adopt the latest 5G technologies, such as 5G Stand Alone (5G-SA), on a large scale. "This is essential for Indonesia to catch up with the development of 5G in other countries, including China. In this regard, both the government and operators must be prepared to collaborate and take action," Rao concluded.
