Samsung is reportedly potentially debuting a new category of its gadgets, namely open ear headphones that may be released together with its latest generation of foldable phones in July 2025.
This news comes from technology leaker Ice Universe as quoted from Gizmochina, Thursday (13/3), who said that the open ear headphones will use bone conduction technology.
These headphones will be Samsung's first open wireless stereo (OWS) and will be a different variant from the earbuds that have been released in previous generations.
Discussing bone conduction technology specifically, this technology allows the gadget to transmit sound through the skull through mechanical vibrations, so that the ear canal remains open and not closed like when the user uses earbuds.
This method offers several advantages, especially for runners, cyclists, and passengers who need to stay alert to their surroundings when listening to music or receiving calls.
Unlike conventional earbuds, bone conduction headphones reduce ear fatigue and provide an extra layer of safety, making them ideal for urban environments.
While bone conduction technology presents exciting possibilities, it also comes with inherent challenges. Potential drawbacks include less accurate sound and the possibility of sound leakage.
Furthermore, the complexity of refining this technology often results in a higher price tag.
Samsung’s foray into this niche market reflects the growing demand for open-ear audio solutions.
Samsung is strategically expanding its audio product offerings to meet a wider range of consumer needs.
