Online Travel Agent (OTA) Tiket.com has reported an increase in vehicle ticket bookings ahead of the Eid holiday, despite the government's budget efficiency measures.
"There is indeed government efficiency, but if we look at the current situation, particularly regarding the Eid period, the data shows that bookings have actually increased year on year for this time," stated Gaery Undarsa, Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer of Tiket.com, during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.
In response to the government's efficiency policies, Gaery highlighted that Tiket.com’s data indicates a 27 percent rise in transportation ticket bookings, a 41 percent increase in accommodation, and a 69 percent surge in tourism activities compared to the previous year's Eid period.
This positive trend is further supported by predictions from the Ministry of Transportation, which estimates that approximately 146.48 million people, or over 52 percent of Indonesia's total population, will travel during the Eid holiday in 2025.
The Ministry noted that the majority of travelers returning to their hometowns are from West Java, East Java, and Central Java. Meanwhile, Tiket.com’s data reveals that the Jabodetabek area, Bali, and Malang are the most popular destinations for families during the holiday season.
Gaery emphasized that the purchase of vehicle tickets during the Eid holiday is primarily an individual necessity rather than a collective government need. This indicates that the holiday period will stimulate economic activity, as many tourism stakeholders are involved.
"Essentially, during the Eid period, the majority of customers are from the retail sector or non-governmental sources, as most are personal travelers. Especially during holidays, the focus is more on personal needs rather than government needs," he explained.
