The Tunas Harmoni Solo Community Promotes A Green Lifestyle

Thursday, 27 Mar 2025

The Tunas Harmoni Surakarta community is one of the organizations promoting a green lifestyle across various cities in Indonesia. This community was established after a group of interfaith youth from across Indonesia participated in a workshop on zero waste living in Bandung.

"Following the several-day training, we were tasked with creating the Tunas Harmoni community in our respective cities and launching local green lifestyle campaigns. In Solo, we conducted our inaugural Eco Visit – Zero Waste Life on March 15, 2025, at the Putri Cempo Waste Disposal Site," stated Kholil Amirun, the Guardian of Tunas Harmoni Solo.

The Putri Cempo site was chosen to highlight how the local community coexists daily with the waste brought in from various parts of Solo, while those living in the city center are often unaware of the impact of this waste. Kholil further explained that the Zero Waste campaign aims to minimize waste by avoiding, reducing, reusing, recycling, and composting. The primary goal of this initiative is to mitigate the negative effects of waste on the environment and to foster a sustainable system.

"Non-organic waste can be collected at the Waste Bank for further processing, while organic waste can be managed at home without being sent to the disposal site. Organic waste can be transformed into fertilizer for personal use," he added.

The Zero Waste movement offers numerous benefits, including reducing environmental pollution, particularly plastic in oceans and soil, conserving natural resources by decreasing the demand for new products, lowering carbon emissions from waste production and disposal, and promoting a circular economy where items are reused or recycled into new products.
