Head of Medical Kalbe Nutritionals dr. Muliaman Mansyur said that regular check-ups and proper nutritional support can prevent prediabetes, and diabetics can manage their blood sugar well.
Data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) shows that 8 out of 10 people are not aware that they are at risk or have prediabetes to diabetes.
"Highlighting the importance of regular blood sugar checks as a crucial initial step in detecting blood sugar levels and maintaining quality of life," said dr. Muliaman Mansyur, in a statement received in Jakarta, on Wednesday (23/4).
Data from the International Diabetes Federation shows that Indonesia is ranked fifth in the world for the number of diabetics, and is expected to rise to fourth in 2045.
Meanwhile, the 2023 Basic Health Research of the Indonesian Ministry of Health noted an increase in the prevalence of diabetes to 11.7 percent in those over 15 years of age.
Unfortunately, there are still many myths and misunderstandings surrounding diabetes, one of which is the assumption that it only attacks older people or is only due to excessive sugar consumption.
In fact, the impact of diabetes is also felt by family and those closest to them in the form of emotional burdens and financial challenges.
"Small changes in lifestyle such as eating healthier, being more active, and routinely monitoring blood sugar, if done consistently, can bring about big changes. The risk of diabetes can be controlled, and the quality of life also increases significantly," he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Indonesian Diabetes Association (Persadia) Surabaya Branch said that the risk of prediabetes and diabetes can affect anyone.
According to him, without early detection and proper management, prediabetes can develop into diabetes, and diabetes can cause various serious health problems that can actually be prevented.
"A balanced diet, regular exercise, and stress management are also important factors in preventing diabetes and managing blood sugar," said Dr. dr. Soebagijo Adi Soelistijo, SpPD, K-EMD, FINASIM, FACP.
Highlighting this, Kalbe Nutritionals through DiabetaCare and Diabetasol presents the #SejutaJari #PunyaDia campaign.
