Samsung is gearing up to release the last major Android update for the Galaxy A14 and A14 5G devices.
The budget phones debuted in 2023 with Android 13. They have received Android 14 since then, and Android 15 will be their last major update, Gizchina reported on Sunday.
The new update will come alongside One UI 7, Samsung’s own Android 15-based interface. It will be released later this year. After that, the phones will no longer receive major Android updates.
Samsung promises two major Android updates for most of its mid-range and budget phones. With the launch of Android 15, Samsung will fulfill that promise for the A14 series.
While the A14 and A14 5G won’t get a new Android version after this, Samsung isn’t stopping them outright. The company will continue to offer security updates for two years.
This will protect the phones from bugs and security vulnerabilities. After those two years, support will be discontinued completely.
This is a common practice for Samsung’s A series.
It strikes a balance between cost and forward-thinking software updates. For low-end phone users, two full Android updates and a few years of security patches is a fair deal.
The Android 15 update will bring new features, improved performance, and design changes. However, if users want to run their phones on the current version of Android, then they may want to consider a newer device in the future.
The Galaxy A14 series has been a top choice for most. As the series ends its update cycle, now is a great time to start thinking about your next smartphone.
