Telegram has officially partnered with xAI, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company. This collaboration aims to bring an AI assistant named Grok to its messaging service.
This announcement was made by Pavel Durov, CEO of Telegram. He stated that Grok will be distributed to more than one billion Telegram users.
This collaboration lasts for one year and provides Telegram with funds of 300 million US dollars (around Rp. 4.5 trillion) from xAI. The funds are in the form of cash and shares.
In addition, Telegram will also receive 50 percent of xAI's subscription revenue. This revenue comes from sales made through the Telegram platform.
"Together, we win!" wrote @durov in his upload on the X platform (formerly Twitter), quoted Thursday (5/29/2025).
This follows the trend of technology companies such as Meta that include AI in WhatsApp. However, analyst Hanna Kahlert said users prefer to communicate with friends and see social updates, so AI can change that experience.
"Adding AI to direct messaging inherently replaces it by reducing trust between users and distracting from its current USP," he added, as quoted by the BBC.
The partnership brings together two controversial tech figures, Pavel Durov and Elon Musk. Durov was once arrested for alleged poor content moderation on Telegram, while Musk is known for his innovation and investment in technology, including AI and social media.
Elon Musk previously co-founded OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT. However, he later left the company to focus on developing xAI as a new competitor in the AI ??industry.
In March, Musk acquired X, formerly known as Twitter. This major acquisition supports the development of xAI which is being developed.
The collaboration between Telegram and xAI is an important policy in bringing artificial intelligence to messaging services. In addition, this collaboration also shows the fierce competition in the world of AI technology today.
