PT Pelindo has announced that by the third week of June 2025, the channel at Pulau Baai Port in Bengkulu City will be open, allowing the port to resume normal operations for the transportation of people and goods.

"The dredging team has reported that by the third week of dredging, the channel has successfully reopened. This is important to communicate, provided that the weather conditions are favorable and the equipment is functioning well, dredging will proceed smoothly, and there will be no issues with equipment malfunctions," stated S. Joko, General Manager of PT Pelindo Regional 2 Port of Bengkulu, in Bengkulu on Sunday.

He mentioned that dredging commenced on June 7, 2025, utilizing the large-capacity dredger CSD Costa Fortuna 3 and the AHT Costa Fortuna 5.

These two vessels were brought in by PT Pelindo under the assignment from the Ministry of Transportation.

"We hope that the dredging activities will proceed smoothly and ideally be completed ahead of the planned schedule," he added.

Joko further explained that the dredging is being carried out in stages. The initial target is to reach a depth of 6.5 meters, which will then be followed by an increase to 12 meters.

Following that, he stated that large ships will eventually be able to dock directly at the port without the need for transshipment, as has been the case recently where they had to anchor offshore at the Port of Pulau Baai.

The Acting Secretary of the Bengkulu Provincial Government, Herwan Antoni, expressed that the progress of the dredging is encouraging news.

The channel has begun to open on the third day of dredging, and the normalization of the channel is proceeding smoothly.

"We hope that the dredging will continue to go well so that port activities and the people of Bengkulu can return to normal," said Herwan Antoni.
