Special Staff of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Doni Ismanto, reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) to ensure that the Red and White Fishermen's Village program continues to operate in support of the economic growth of Indonesia's coastal communities.
"This program will proceed, it will continue, and it can contribute to the economic growth of the region," Doni stated during the "Morning Sea" event titled Synergy in the Development of the Red and White Fishermen's Village in Jakarta on Monday.
Doni made this statement in response to various doubts expressed on social media regarding the sustainability and tangible impact of the program for fishing villages.
According to Doni, communities often fall prey to preconceived notions before allowing a program the opportunity to develop, whereas the spirit of collaboration is the key to the future success of the Red and White Fishermen's Village.
Therefore, he urged all parties participating in the event, whether in person or online, to engage in active collaboration among local governments, state-owned enterprises, and the private sector to synergize in successfully implementing the Red and White Fishermen's Village program.
He emphasized that the program is not a futile project, but rather a genuine solution for empowering coastal areas.
He expressed optimism that the Red and White Fishermen's Village could become a symbol of positive change with a significant contribution to the local economy, provided it receives full support and trust from the broader community.
"Let us together prove to those who are skeptical that this project, this program will proceed and continue," said Doni.
It is known that the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) aims to establish 100 Red and White Fishermen's Villages by the year 2025 to enhance the welfare of coastal communities and strengthen the national marine economy.
The Expert Staff of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in the Economic, Social, and Cultural Sector, Trian Yunanda, stated that the program is specifically designed to transform the face of coastal villages and aquaculture communities into more productive and integrated entities in producing competitive fishery products, as seen in the Samber-Binyeri Village, Biak Numfor Regency, Papua.
So far, the KKP has received 910 proposals for the implementation of the Red and White Fishermen's Village program from various coastal areas and aquaculture communities across Indonesia.
The selection process for the 100 chosen locations is assured to be rigorous and transparent, and the KKP is currently preparing regulations that will serve as the legal basis for the implementation of the program.
