The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, emphasized that the collaboration in the clean energy sector between Indonesia and Singapore prioritizes national interests.
"In this bilateral relationship, we must consider national interests. The President has consistently stated that we can collaborate with any country as long as it brings positive impacts to our nation," Bahlil remarked after the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in Singapore on Monday (June 16), as quoted from his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Minister Bahlil accompanied President Prabowo Subianto at the Renewable Energy Interconnectors Milestone Ceremony held at the Parliament House in Singapore on Monday (June 16).
The launch of this initiative marks a significant milestone in the renewable energy cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore, taking place during the annual leaders' retreat and President Prabowo's state visit to Singapore.
Through this launch, Bahlil further stated, Indonesia and Singapore are demonstrating a concrete commitment to the transition to clean energy, while also creating new investment opportunities in the development of sustainable industrial zones, cross-border electricity trade, and low-carbon energy infrastructure.
"The total investment, as calculated in our established framework, is approximately 10 billion US dollars, excluding the industrial zone. The industrial zone will be developed collaboratively, similar to the initiatives undertaken by Singapore and Malaysia. We are also developing in Batam, Bintan, and Karimun (BBK) in the Riau Islands Province. This location is chosen to ensure proximity to Singapore," stated Bahlil.
The symbolic confirmation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the Sustainable Industrial Zone was conducted by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia and Singapore's Minister of Energy and Science and Technology Tan See Leng, with President Prabowo and the Prime Minister of Singapore present in Singapore.
Previously, the two ministers had signed three MoUs concerning the development of environmentally friendly energy at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources office in Jakarta on Friday (June 13).
The energy cooperation is encapsulated in three MoUs: the MoU for the Sustainable Industrial Zone (SIZ); the MoU for Cross-Border Electricity Interconnection and Trade, Renewable and Low-Carbon Energy Technology, as well as Energy Efficiency and Conservation; and the MoU for Cross-Border Carbon Capture and Storage Cooperation.
