The Galaxy Watch Has Introduced An Earthquake Alert Feature For Safety

Wednesday, 18 Jun 2025

Google has expanded the Android earthquake warning system to the Samsung Galaxy Watch running Wear OS. This alert system will produce vibrations or taps on the wrist prior to the occurrence of an earthquake.

According to Gizchina, on Saturday (June 14), the Android earthquake warning system, which was first launched in 2020, will be available on popular Samsung Galaxy Watch models such as the Galaxy Watch 7, Watch 6, and Watch 5.

The operation of this early warning system will indicate the estimated magnitude of the earthquake and the distance of Galaxy Watch users from the epicenter, thereby providing users with time to move to a safer location. When a sufficient number of phones detect unusual movement, Google's servers will triangulate the data, confirm the earthquake, and send out alerts, all within a matter of seconds. This brief time interval can reduce injuries and save lives.

This update is particularly beneficial for anyone who leaves their phone behind while running, hiking, or engaging in spontaneous tasks. The Galaxy Watch with built-in LTE does not require a nearby phone or Wi-Fi network and can receive alerts independently.

Google has integrated this feature into Google Play Services version 25.21 for Wear OS. The warning system will be automatically activated once the Galaxy Watch installs the update, provided that the watch's firmware and Play Services are kept up to date.
