The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, expected to launch in January, is rumored to bring camera improvements, including a 200MP Sony sensor with a larger resolution than its predecessor.
According to the latest rumors, reported by GSM Arena on Monday, this flagship phone will be equipped with a new main camera sensor from Sony with a resolution of 200MP and a size of 1/1.1 inches, making it the first 200MP sensor from the Japanese company.
For comparison, the Galaxy S25 Ultra currently uses the Samsung ISOCELL HP2 sensor, which also has a resolution of 200MP, but is smaller at 1/1.3 inches.
With its larger size, this Sony sensor is believed to be able to capture more light and produce better image quality, especially in low-light conditions.
However, it is possible that Samsung will delay the use of this Sony sensor until the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which is expected to be released in 2027. The source of the rumor states that the use of this sensor in the Galaxy S26 Ultra is still not fully confirmed.
If realized, this collaboration with Sony for the main camera sensor could be a new step for Samsung, given that the South Korean company has tended to rely on its own sensor technology.
In addition to camera improvements, there are also rumors that Samsung will embed an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant from Perplexity AI in the Galaxy S26 lineup.
The agreement between Samsung and Perplexity AI involves preloading the Perplexity app and assistant on future Samsung devices, with Samsung aiming to make it a built-in assistant option in the Galaxy S26 lineup.
Talks have also touched on integrating Perplexity's search feature directly into Samsung's web browser, offering a more comprehensive and AI-powered search experience.
Furthermore, there are plans to incorporate Perplexity's technology into Samsung's Bixby virtual assistant. However, specific terms and final details have not been finalized and are subject to change.
