Seven Habits To Boost Immunity Naturally

Monday, 21 Jul 2025

Dr. Mayanka Lodha Seth, chief pathologist at Redcliffe Labs, said that frequent infections, fevers, and other health issues, especially when the weather or temperature changes, are signs of low immunity.

"Strengthening your immunity is key to preventing infections and staying resilient against disease," Seth said in an interview with the Hindustan Times on Wednesday (July 16).

Seth explained that the immune system serves as the body's first line of defense. Maintaining it requires a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.

She shared ways to boost immunity naturally, focusing on preventative measures and lifestyle habits rather than medication.

The first step is to prioritize quality sleep, which is essential for the immune system. Lack of sleep affects the production of cytokines, proteins that help fight infection.

Adults need at least 7–8 hours of sleep to maintain optimal immune function. A study shows that those who sleep less than 6 hours are more likely to fall ill.

Ensure a varied diet, including fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. If you need vitamin C, consume citrus fruits, zinc in seeds or nuts and antioxidants that increase white blood cell production.

Fermented foods such as curd and pickles are also recommended to support gut health.

Seth also suggests maintaining water consumption of 2.5 to 3 liters per day. Apart from quenching thirst, water is key in the immune system.
