Friday, 27 Sep 2024

The Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, Nezar Patria, emphasized the critical importance of establishing a sustainable artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem to support the growth of Indonesia's digital economy.

"We have a greater responsibility to manage this ecosystem in a way that ensures sustainability and delivers significant benefits for Indonesia's future," he asserted during the opening of the "AI Ecosystem Development" Workshop in South Jakarta on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

Nezar highlighted the rapid advancement of AI technology in Indonesia, which has the potential to contribute USD 366 billion to the ASEAN digital economy by 2030.

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) necessitates its effective utilization. Will the adoption of AI enhance the digital economy and subsequently create numerous job opportunities? Will this ecosystem generate additional value creation that could lead to job creation? This was articulated by the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Technology.

According to the Deputy Minister, the impact of AI usage will vary across different countries. In Japan, where there is a labor shortage issue, the introduction of AI technology could provide a solution. Therefore, Deputy Minister Nezar Patria emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration to ensure responsible AI adoption.

"We also acknowledge several negative aspects of AI, which we are striving to address through various regulations. In Indonesia, for instance, we have issued a Ministerial Circular regarding Ethical Guidelines for AI usage, aimed at developers," he explained.

Nezar called upon all stakeholders to collaboratively build an inclusive and sustainable AI ecosystem to achieve the Vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.

The event was also attended by Hokky Situngkir, Director General of Informatics Applications at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology; Sarwoto Atmosutarno, Chairman of the Indonesian Telematics Society (MASTEL); Hammam Riza, President of the Research and Innovation Collaboration in Artificial Intelligence (KORIKA); Erlangga Al Farozi, Head of IT Project Management Officer at the Ministry of Health; and Farah Fitria Rahmayanti, Director of Digital Business at PERURI.
