Schneider Electric, a leader in digital transformation for energy management and automation, along with the Schneider Electric Foundation, has renewed its partnership with the Directorate General of Vocational Education at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. This renewed partnership aims to enhance vocational education in electricity, automation, and renewable energy, creating a skilled workforce with industry-relevant expertise. The collaboration was announced during the Schneider Electric Innovation Day in Jakarta in November, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in July 2024.
This partnership builds on a successful collaboration that began in 2017 with the "Campus Pro International" initiative, which led to the establishment of the Centre of Excellence for Electricity, Automation, and Renewable Energy and improved quality in 144 Vocational High Schools (SMK).
The new agreement will expand the impact of the Centre of Excellence to ensure a sustainable and long-term approach to developing education and skills in electricity, automation, and renewable energy. This initiative aligns with the government's efforts to produce skilled workers across Indonesia to meet the growing demands of the electricity sector, which is projected to need at least 350,000 workers from 2020 to 2024 to support ongoing expansion.
The partnership will last for the next three years, focusing on the following initiatives:
Revitalizing the Centre of Excellence and the existing 144 schools, along with upgrading laboratories for 15 to 30 vocational schools in electricity, automation, and renewable energy.
Enhancing the quality of the Centre of Excellence through training programs for educators and educational staff.
Strengthening the skills of educators and educational staff through upskilling and reskilling programs for beneficiaries.
Developing technology in vocational schools and CoE EARE.
Providing opportunities for educators and educational staff to participate in training and visits to Schneider Electric facilities.
Martin Setiawan, Cluster President of Schneider Electric Indonesia & Timor Leste, stated, “At Schneider Electric, we believe education is key to building a sustainable future. By renewing this partnership, we equip individuals with necessary skills and promote growth across the industry. We are committed to providing the tools and resources needed for Indonesia to thrive in the evolving energy and automation sectors. Together, we are creating a more sustainable and technologically advanced future.”
Muhammad Yusro, Director of Vocational High Schools at the Directorate General of Vocational Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, mentioned, “This collaboration reflects a strong commitment between the government and the industry to prepare human resources capable of facing the increasingly complex and competitive challenges in electricity, automation, and renewable energy.”
This initiative is crucial to ensure that vocational school graduates can contribute to national industry development and meet future workforce needs. By equipping educators and students with the latest skills and technology, we not only enhance their career prospects but also strengthen Indonesia's ability to tackle the challenges of a changing industrial landscape.
