The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) announced that economic growth in the second quarter of 2025 reached 5.12% year-on-year (yoy). This economic performance at the start of Prabowo Subianto's administration surpassed that of the 7th President Joko Widodo during his eight months in office. According to the BPS report, Indonesia's gross domestic product (GDP) at current prices reached Rp 5,947 trillion in the second quarter of 2025. GDP at constant prices reached Rp 3,396.3 trillion, resulting in economic growth of 5.12% (yoy). In terms of production, the main contributors to economic growth in the second quarter of 2025 were the manufacturing industry, trade, telecommunications, and construction. The manufacturing sector, which contracted in the past quarter, delivered a surprise by contributing to the growth. The manufacturing industry recorded growth of 5.68% (yoy), with a share of GDP reaching 18.67%. This contribution to GDP increased from last year's 18.52%, but fell short of the 2021 figure of 19.92%. With this achievement, the manufacturing sector contributed 1.13% to total economic growth in the first quarter of 2025. The trade sector recorded growth of 5.37% (yoy) and construction 4.98% (yoy). The agricultural sector, the second-largest contributor in terms of production, only recorded a 1.65% (yoy) increase, despite its share of GDP reaching 13.83%. Meanwhile, in terms of expenditure, economic growth in the second quarter of 2025 was still supported by household consumption and gross fixed capital formation (GFCF). GFCF is expenditure on capital goods with a useful life of more than one year and is not a consumer good. Household consumption grew 4.97% (yoy), contributing 54.25% to GDP. GFCF recorded growth of 6.99% (yoy), contributing 27.83%. Meanwhile, exports came in third, contributing 10.67% (yoy), contributing 22.28%. The Prabowo administration's economic growth in the first eight months of its administration surpassed that of the Jokowi administration in the same period a decade earlier. In the second quarter of 2015, economic growth was recorded at 4.67% (yoy). At that time, the Indonesian economy was exposed to rising fuel prices. Less than a month into his presidency, Jokowi raised fuel prices on November 17, 2014. The impact of the fuel price increase depressed public consumption, slowing economic growth. A similar situation occurred during the 6th President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) term. SBY raised fuel prices in October 2004 by almost 100%. This was despite a 30% increase in the same year. The resulting inflation was significant. However, economic growth at the start of SBY's administration was still higher than during the Jokowi and Prabowo eras. In the second quarter of 2015, economic growth rose to 5.54% (yoy).
