The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) has confirmed that the outbreak of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) currently spreading in China has not been detected in Indonesia. "Regarding the rise in cases of influenza A and the HMPV virus in China, there have been no reported cases in Indonesia at this time," stated Kemenkes spokesperson Widyawati in a statement on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Widyawati elaborated that influenza type A, particularly the H5N1 variant, was present in Indonesia from 2005 to 2017. However, there have been no new human cases reported since 2018. "For the H5N6 and H9N2 variants, several cases have been reported in China, but neither of these variants has been documented in Indonesia," she added. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the spread of HMPV and influenza type A remains limited to China.
Currently, Kemenkes has not implemented any travel restrictions or bans to and from China. Nevertheless, the public is encouraged to maintain their health by practicing Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS). "There is no need to panic, but it is important to remain vigilant by monitoring case developments through various media. If travel abroad is necessary, one should first verify the situation and policies in the destination country and adhere to health protocols," Widyawati advised.
