PT PELNI (Persero) has partnered with BSI Maslahat to launch the construction of clean water sanitation and public restrooms for the rural community in Retok Village, Kubu Raya, West Kalimantan on Thursday, January 9. Reaching this location takes over three hours by boat, navigating through a dark river.
One major issue for the Kubu Raya community is the lack of access to clean water. The river's dark color, caused by industrial activities and surrounding environmental conditions, makes clean water a rare resource. Additionally, several districts in Kubu Raya still do not have access to the PDAM water network.
The new clean water sanitation and restroom facilities are expected to benefit the community, especially in improving health and well-being in rural Kubu Raya. The morning journey into the heart of West Kalimantan highlights PT PELNI (Persero) and BSI Maslahat's commitment to contributing positively to society.
This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal 6, which focuses on clean water and sanitation. It aims to ensure the availability and sustainable management of clean water and sanitation for all.
Present at the inauguration were Fitriyaningsih, Branch Head of PT PELNI (Persero) Pontianak; Dina Handayani, Manager of Corporate Funding Group; and Sahidin, the Head of Retok Village.
Fitriyaningsih stated, "We are collaborating with BSI Maslahat to build clean water sanitation and restrooms in Retok Village as part of our company's commitment to the community."
PELNI, a state-owned enterprise, operates in the shipping sector, currently managing 25 passenger ships, 30 pioneer ship routes, 18 rede ships, 8 sea toll routes, and one special route for livestock transport.
Dina Handayani, the Manager of the Corporate Funding Group at BSI Maslahat, expressed, "We hope that the assistance for building clean water and sanitation facilities will be beneficial and improve the quality of life for the people of Retok Village."
Mr. Sahidin, representing the community, shared his gratitude for the clean water sanitation facilities, saying, "Thank goodness we can finally access clean water for our children and families. Clean water is rare in our village. Thank you very much to PT PELNI (Persero) and BSI Maslahat for this support."
