Monday, 07 Apr 2025

The momentum of the 2025 Eid holiday not only affects people's mobility, but also provides a significant boost to the national economy. The increase in homecoming traffic and high tourism activities directly contribute to domestic consumption, which is one of the main factors in economic turnover.

Every year, Ramadan and Eid are important moments that drive a spike in public spending, both for basic needs, travel, accommodation, and entertainment. This increase occurs in various sectors, from transportation, hotels, culinary, to retail. Increased economic activity during this period is believed to be able to strengthen people's purchasing power and create a chain effect for national economic growth.

Mirae Asset Sekuritas analyst, Nafan Aji Gusta, highlighted the trend of public consumption which always increases before and during Eid, reflecting the significant role of this moment in driving the economy.

"That has actually been proven historically from before. So let's just see, for example; there is an increase in shopping activity," said Nafan, quoted on Thursday, April 3, 2025.

In addition to shopping activities, increased public mobility during the homecoming and return flows is also a major factor driving domestic consumption. The surge in the number of travelers traveling to their hometowns, as well as tourists visiting various destinations, has a direct impact on the transportation, accommodation, and other supporting industries.

"In quotation marks, for example, in a number of tourist areas in the region and there has been a significant spike in passengers. In terms of homecoming activities using trains. And there has been an increase in traffic flow. The flow of motorized vehicle traffic specifically through toll roads," he explained.

According to Nafan, the increase in economic activity during this period created a broader positive effect, especially in optimizing domestic consumption. The surge in spending that occurred on a large scale not only increased the turnover of business actors, but also strengthened the purchasing power of the community as a whole.

"Of course this is also a positive catalyst. Where domestic consumption activities really experienced optimization or experienced an optimum increase. By utilizing the momentum of the holy month of Ramadan and the Eid homecoming period," he added.

With the increase in transactions in various sectors, national economic growth is predicted to experience quite significant strengthening. High mobility during the Eid holiday has the potential to encourage business activity, especially in the trade and services sectors.
