President Prabowo Subianto has signaled that he will soon withdraw state assets that are currently controlled by the private sector.
In front of hundreds of thousands of workers, the President emphasized that state assets, which are the wealth of the people, must be controlled by the state as regulated in the constitution of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia (UUD 45).
"I was born in Betawi, I grew up in Betawi. I understand which assets belong to the people, I understand all of them, and I will withdraw them back to belong to the people, brothers and sisters," said Prabowo while speaking in front of hundreds of thousands of workers during the commemoration of International Labor Day (May Day) 2025 at the Monas Silang Field, Jakarta, Thursday.
The President then emphasized that he had consulted with a number of supreme court justices regarding his desire to withdraw the state assets.
"I have asked the Supreme Court justices, the basis of the law, our Constitution is strong! The land, and water, and all the wealth contained therein are controlled by the state. The sources of production that control the livelihood of many people are controlled by the state and used as much as possible for the prosperity of the people. That is the command of the Constitution," said the President, citing the contents of Article 33 paragraph (3) of the 1945 Constitution.
However, the President did not mention further which assets would be immediately withdrawn to be re-controlled by the state.
A number of ministries in the last few months have re-registered state assets controlled by them, because some assets such as land are often controlled by other parties such as individuals or the private sector.
One of the state asset dispute cases that is currently attracting public attention is related to the 13-hectare land that has been occupied by the Sultan Hotel in Jakarta for quite some time. The dispute case involves the Ministry of State Secretariat with Indobuildco, a company owned by Pontjo Sutowo, which currently controls the Sultan Hotel.
Minister of ATR/BPN Nusron Wahid last month (19/3) said that the Ministry of State Secretariat had sent a warning letter to Indobuildco to immediately vacate the building, because their building use rights (HGB) had expired since 2023
The land that is the object of the dispute is located in the Gelora Bung Karno area, whose control will be transferred from the Ministry of State Secretariat to the Danantara Investment Management Agency.
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said that the transfer of management of the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area assets to Danantara was an instruction from President Prabowo Subianto.
"So regarding the question of the Gelora Bung Karno area assets whose management will be transferred under Danantara, yes, that is an instruction from the President," said Prasetyo answering journalists' questions in Jakarta, Wednesday (30/4).
