Supported By Prabowo, What Are We Waiting For In The Discussion Of The Asset Confiscation Bill?

Tuesday, 06 May 2025

The Asset Confiscation Bill has received support from President Prabowo Subianto to be passed into law. Prabowo expressed this support while attending the commemoration of International Workers' Day or May Day 2025 at the National Monument Field, Jakarta, Thursday (1/5/2025). "Ladies and Gentlemen, in the context of eradicating corruption, I support the Asset Confiscation Bill. I support it," said Prabowo in his speech, Thursday. The Head of State emphasized that there should be no compromise with corruptors who do not want to return the proceeds of their crimes.

"It's okay, they've stolen, but they don't want to return the assets. I'll just take it," said Prabowo, greeted by enthusiastic shouts from the workers.

Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendara stated that the government is ready to discuss the Asset Confiscation Bill with the DPR. Yusril said that the government views that the confiscation of assets from corruption needs to be regulated by law, so that judges have a strong legal basis in making decisions. "When assets suspected of being the result of corruption can be confiscated and when they must be confiscated for the state, all must be regulated by law in order to create justice and legal certainty as well as respect for human rights," said Yusril. The law is also important to prevent abuse of power and arbitrary actions by law enforcement officers. Wait for the Criminal Procedure Code to be completed Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of the DPR Adies Kadir implied that the Asset Confiscation Bill will not be discussed jointly by the DPR and the government in the near future. Adies said that the Asset Confiscation Bill will only be discussed after the DPR completes the revision of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). Adies reasoned that the revision of the Criminal Code will contain a mechanism for provisions for confiscating assets resulting from criminal acts.
