Wednesday, 07 May 2025

Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that Indonesia's manufacturing value added (MVA) is among the world's largest contributors, occupying 12th position with a value of 255.96 billion US dollars or Rp4.26 quadrillion (exchange rate of Rp16,634). The Minister of Industry in Jakarta, Sunday stated this based on data from theglobaleconomy.com, which stated that the MVA of Indonesia's manufacturing sector in 2023 reached 255.96 billion US dollars or increased by 36.4 percent compared to 2022 of 241.87 billion US dollars or Rp4.02 quadrillion. The figure in 2023 is the highest achievement in history and reflects the strategic role of the manufacturing sector in the national economy. For output and global value, Indonesia is on par with other developed countries such as England, Russia, and France. "Indonesia is far ahead compared to other ASEAN countries, such as Thailand and Vietnam whose MVA values ??are only half of Indonesia's MVA values. Thailand's MVA is in 22nd position with a value of 128 billion US dollars (Rp2.12 quadrillion), while Vietnam is in 24th position with a value of 102 billion US dollars (Rp1.7 quadrillion)," he said. He said that the Indonesian manufacturing industry is considered to have a fairly deep structure from upstream to downstream sectors. This has a positive impact on increasing added value so that it makes a significant contribution to the national economy. "Referring to data from theglobaleconomy.com, the MVA trend has always increased since 2019-2023 except during the Covid-19 pandemic that hit Indonesia. To continue to spur this added value, strategic, pro-business and pro-investment policies are needed so that our manufacturing industry is increasingly competitive in the global arena," he also said.
