Budi Arie's Name Appears In Judol Case Indictment, Here's Projo's Response

Wednesday, 21 May 2025

The Projo organization spoke out about the emergence of the name of former Minister of Communication and Information (Kominfo) Budi Arie in the indictment of the online gambling site (judol) security case. Budi Arie is said to have asked for a 50 percent share of the judol site security practice.

Secretary General (Sekjen) of DPP Projo, Handoko, asked the public not to lead opinions regarding this matter. He said the public could check the facts and news related to Budi Arie's actions, who is claimed to have always been at the forefront of eradicating online gambling during his tenure as Minister of Communication and Information.

"I responded so that the news does not become material for evil framing or even wild perceptions that Budi Arie Setiadi, who is also the General Chairperson of DPP Projo, was involved and received bribes from online gambling," said Handoko, Sunday, May 18, 2025.

Handoko assessed that the indictment quoted by the media stated that the allocation of bribes from online gambling bookies was an agreement between the defendants. According to him, the indictment did not mention that Budi Arie knew about the 50 percent bribe, let alone received the illicit money.

"The prosecutor's indictment did not mention that Budi Arie knew, let alone received the illicit money. In fact, Budi Arie did not know about the distribution of the bribe, let alone received it either in part or in full. That testimony was also what he explained when questioned by the National Police investigators," he said.

Handoko said that he accused the misleading issue of being deliberately developed in order to create an evil framing that aims to destroy someone's image. He considered the issue to be built from incomplete information or data, plus subjective messages.

"Then combined with information that is not related to the core of the problem. The goal is for the public to follow or agree with the wishes of the actor who made the framing," he said.

Handoko said that the integrity of the information is important to understand the problems related to the indictment of the judol case. He asked various parties to stop the evil framing that could harm someone's dignity.

"Stop the misleading narrative and evil framing to discredit anyone, including Budi Arie Setiadi. The commotion caused by the distortion of facts is very detrimental to the public, only suspicion and misleading thinking or wrong accusations will be obtained, instead of getting the truth and justice," said Handoko.

Handoko asked the public to respect the ongoing legal process in court openly and fairly. The public can monitor it through valid sources of information such as explanations from law enforcement through media that uphold objectivity and independence.

"Do not distort legal facts with non-factual assumptions, let alone evil framing to assassinate Budi Arie Setiadi's character," he said.
