Supporting Energy Transformation, Prabowo Gathers Ministers To Discuss Lifting And Downstreaming

President Prabowo Subianto held a meeting with a number of ministers of the Red and White Cabinet at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. 

The meeting discussed strategic issues in the national energy sector, especially related to increasing oil and gas production (oil and gas lifting) and accelerating the industrial downstream program. 

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia who attended the meeting said that President Prabowo was paying serious attention to the agenda of increasing national oil and gas lifting. One of the efforts is through cooperation with the Cooperation Contract Contractors (K3S). 

"Tomorrow there will be a big event attended by 46 countries about K3S contractors in order to increase lifting," said Bahlil in a written statement, quoted Tuesday, May 20, 2025. 

According to Bahlil, in addition to the lifting issue, the meeting also discussed the acceleration of downstreaming which has become a government priority. He said that President Prabowo had given direction to immediately implement strategic downstream projects. 

"We also discussed how to accelerate downstreaming and at the same time increase lifting. Well, in the near future, later after we report to the President, the President has planned that from the several downstreaming projects, there must be some that are implemented," he explained. 

On that occasion, Bahlil also revealed that the government's downstreaming focus includes the nickel sector as the main raw material for the electric vehicle battery ecosystem, as well as the development of the DME (dimethyl ether) project as an energy substitute.
