Reasons Prabowo Canceled 50 Percent Electricity Tariff Discount

President Prabowo Subianto canceled the implementation of a 50 percent electricity tariff discount for 79.3 million electricity customers with power below 1,300 VA. 

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said there was indeed a change in plan. This was done because it was related to limited time. 

"We met the electricity discount budget later. If it was in June, July it could not be implemented," said Sri Mulyani at a press conference at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Monday (2/6). 

As a replacement, the government increased the wage subsidy assistance (BSU). Initially, the BSU of IDR 150 thousand was given to workers with salaries below IDR 3.5 million for two months. 

The government increased the assistance to IDR 300 thousand per month. In other words, 17.3 million employees and 565 thousand honorary teachers will receive IDR 600 thousand assistance for two months. 

"Later, the Ministry of Manpower will implement the program, namely BSU of Rp300 thousand per month, given for June and July. So, two months of Rp600," said Sri Mulyani. 

There are four other policies included in Prabowo's economic stimulus package. First, discounts on train, plane, and sea transportation tickets worth Rp0.94 trillion.
