Sri Mulyani's First Visit To Nduga: Aircraft Targeted By TPNPB-OPM, Wearing Bulletproof Vests

During their visit to Nduga, Saturday (7/6/2025), Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani and Minister of Defense (Menhan) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin were seen wearing bulletproof vests. This is a form of security due to the high risk of security in Nduga, one of the regencies in the Papua Mountains Province which is in the red zone. Nduga is in the red zone because there are often armed conflicts between the TNI-Polri and armed criminal groups (KKB) there. The Minister of Finance and the Minister of Defense came to see firsthand the conditions of the region and support efforts to improve security, education, health, and development for the community. During their visit to the capital city of Keneyam, the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Defense visited the Yonif 733/Masariku Mobile Border Security Task Force Post, and met face to face with the Forkompimda ranks. 

The plane becomes a target for TPNPB-OPM 

Apparently, the plane carrying Sri Mulyani and Minister of Defense Sjafrie became a target for the West Papua National Liberation Army-Free Papua Organization (TPNPB-OPM). 

The civil aircraft with the registration number PK-ELM belonging to PT Elang Nusantara Air became a target for TPNPB-OPM troops because it previously carried the Commander of Kogabwilhan III, General (Lt. Gen.) TNI Bambang Trisnohadi and his troops. "The civil aircraft with flight number PK-ELM Elang Nusantara Air which was flown from Timika to Nduga, was designated as a DPO by TPNPB-OPM," he said in a written statement received by Kompas.com, Saturday afternoon. Sebby added that this aircraft was the main target if it entered the armed conflict area throughout Papua. "The aircraft along with the pilot and co-pilot have entered the area that we have designated as a war zone with Indonesian military forces," he said.
