Friday, 13 Jun 2025

President Prabowo Subianto has decided to revoke four of the five Mining Business Permits (IUP) operating in the Raja Ampat area, West Papua.

Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi said the revocation was carried out based on various considerations and Prabowo's approval.

"Yesterday, the President led a limited meeting to discuss IUP in Raja Ampat and with the president's approval, we decided that the government will revoke the IUP for 4 companies in Raja Ampat Regency," he said in a press conference, Tuesday (10/6).

EMR Minister Bahlil Lahadalia revealed that the four companies whose permits were revoked were PT Kawei Sejahtera Mining, PT Mulia Raymond Perkasa, PT Anugerah Surya Pratama, PT Nurham. Meanwhile, the IUP held by PT Gag Nikel was maintained.

Bahlil said that PT Gag Nikel's IUP was maintained because after conducting a comprehensive evaluation of environmental and technical aspects, the company did not commit any violations.

In fact, direct inspections in the field showed that mining activities were running according to regulations and did not cause significant environmental impacts.

"For PT GAG because it is a mining that according to the results of our team's evaluation is very good. Earlier I saw the photos when I reviewed it, thank God it is in accordance with the amdal (environmental impact analysis)," said Bahlil.

Moreover, Bahlil said that PT Gag Nikel had obtained a permit in the form of a Work Contract (KK) since the reign of the 2nd President Soeharto, namely 1998. Then, the first exploration was carried out in 1999-2002.
