President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the groundbreaking of the integrated electric vehicle (EV) battery ecosystem megaproject (Grand Package) in East Halmahera, North Maluku, and Karawang, West Java, worth USD 5.9 billion or equivalent to IDR 96 trillion (exchange rate of IDR 16,284). Prabowo Inaugurates EV Battery Project 

The project is an industrial development from upstream to downstream consisting of 6 integrated projects developed by PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam), Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC), and the CATL Brunp and Lygned Consortium (CBL) which is a subsidiary of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL). 

"By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, today, Sunday, June 29, 2025, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, proudly inaugurate the groundbreaking of the integrated electric vehicle industry ecosystem of the Antam, IBC and CBL consortium. I declare it started," Prabowo said during the groundbreaking of the Antam-IBC-CBL Integrated Electric Vehicle Battery Industry Ecosystem Project in the Artha Industrial Hills (AIH) Area, Karawang, Sunday (29/6). The Lithium-ion battery factory construction project with a phase 1 capacity of 6.9 gigawatts per hour (GWh), is a joint venture between IBC and CBL. The joint venture is PT Contemporary Amperex Technology Indonesia. 

Surprised to See Tomy Winata 

"Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome this event with great joy and great pride. Usually I don't want to... TW (Tomy Winata) is here, a familiar face so I, I have to greet him too," said Prabowo in his speech to inaugurate the event in Karawang, Sunday (29/6). 

After seeing Tomy, he asked Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya to take attendance of all the invitees who were not present at the inauguration. In addition, he also mentioned his reluctance to attend the groundbreaking event. But it is different with the project being worked on by Indonesia and China. The mega project includes 5 projects developed in the PT Feni Haltim (FHT) Area which is a Joint Venture (JV) of Antam and Hong Kong CBL Limited (HK CBL) in East Halmahera, as well as 1 project developed in the Artha Industrial Hills (AIH) Area, Karawang owned by Tomy Winata.
