Prabowo Attends BRICS 2025, Indonesia Officially Becomes Full Member

Thursday, 10 Jul 2025

President Prabowo Subianto has completed his participation in the 2025 BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 6-7 July 2025.

This is not just an ordinary forum, because Prabowo's presence marks Indonesia's official joining as a full member of BRICS, a large world economic bloc that is now increasingly influential globally.

Indonesia Officially Becomes a Full Member of BRICS

Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya emphasized that Indonesia's participation in this summit is a new history for Indonesian diplomacy.

"There is a new history. Indonesia officially participated in the BRICS Summit for the first time as a full member, and this was initiated by the President," said Teddy in a press statement from Rio de Janeiro, Monday (7/7/2025).

According to Teddy, Indonesia is the 10th member of BRICS, following the organization's expansion from initially only five countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).

BRICS now has 10 members, with Saudi Arabia still in the process of finalizing its membership.

Prabowo Encourages Global Collaboration

Prabowo, said Teddy, carries a collaborative spirit in Indonesia's diplomatic approach. One of his main principles is, "A thousand friends are too few, one enemy is too many."

Through this membership, Indonesia opens the door to new multilateral cooperation in the fields of economics, technology, trade, and global security.

BRICS, the World's New Economic Bloc

BRICS is now a major economic power that represents almost half of the world's population and contributes 35% of global gross domestic product (GDP).

The 2025 BRICS Summit was attended by 28 state leaders, consisting of 10 official members, 10 partner countries, and eight guest countries.

"Many countries are lining up to join BRICS. This shows that Indonesia is increasingly being heard, increasingly being seen, and increasingly being needed in the global world," said Teddy.
