Tuesday, 15 Jul 2025

President Prabowo Subianto continues his overseas trip. After Brazil, Prabowo visited Brussels, Belgium, the city where the European Union is headquartered.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto revealed that while in Belgium, Prabowo would discuss trade cooperation through the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (I-EU CEPA).

"One of the things we will discuss is the I-EU CEPA. We have been negotiating, entering its 10th year, over 19 rounds," Airlangga said in Brussels, as quoted on Sunday, July 13, 2025

According to him, all issues in the cooperation have been resolved. For Indonesia, the agreement with the European Union represents a new achievement amidst global uncertainty.

"This means that between Indonesia and the EU, our products can enter Europe with zero percent tariffs," Airlangga explained.

The economic agreement between Indonesia and the European Union through the I-EU CEPA will be signed in the third quarter of 2025 in Jakarta. The President will also meet with European Council President Antonio Luis Santos da Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Belgium's King Philippe.

Airlangga stated that the European Union views Indonesia as a strategic country. Furthermore, Indonesia is in the process of joining the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Furthermore, Indonesia is considered a pioneer in the region.

"We are considered a like-minded country. Indonesia will continue to grow economically in the future. They see ASEAN as very strong in various regions, and Indonesia is the anchor," Airlangga explained.
